Exploring and Learning Together in Nature
Who is Another Adventure for?
Another Adventure is for preschool aged children (2 to 6) that want to explore and learn in together in nature with an adult caregiver! All children must have an adult caregiver (18 years of age or older) with them for the duration of the class. Children older or younger are welcome to attend if you feel they would enjoy the classes. Caregivers can be responsible for more than one child as long as the caregiver can effectively watch all their children.
Where are we going?
Location changes each week so we can explore diverse habitats and natural spaces but will be within the Greater Portland area. Some locations have more walking and hiking than others depending on the goal of the class. See the Session page for more information about each week’s destination.
What should I expect on Another Adventure?
9:30-9:45 – Welcome to Another Adventure! We may read a story, make a craft, or sing a song before we…
9:45 -10:45 – Start the Adventure! We may have a destination in mind depending on the location or we may have the journey be our adventure. We may play a game, stop to stomp in a puddle, listen to the birds… our adventure will depend on what our little naturalists lead us to discover.
10:45 – Return to the parking location. We will have a chance to share this week’s adventure experience before we preview Another Adventure next week. You will be given the Another Adventure Nature Journal. Depending on time, we may fill in some before we leave or take it to do back at home.
What do I need to bring?
Sun protection: sunscreen, hats, etc
Layers: clothes for shade, wind, sun
Bug and tick repellent. Ticks are a reality in Maine! I highly suggest a tick spray of some sort.
Clothes that can get wet and muddy – rain/waterproof pants are amazing!
A change of clothes (and shoes!) in which to go home
Child carrier if your younger child prefers to be worn on longer walks
Backpack for carrying extra items
Snacks and water
Things to remember:
Children must be accompanied by a caregiver at every class.
Restrooms are not likely to be where we are going.
Garbage receptacles may not be where we are going. Please be prepared to bring all trash back home for disposal.
Dogs may be able to come to some of our locations. Please do not bring them to the first class until we know if there are concerns from other attending families. Please ask me to address with the group if you would like to bring and be responsible for your leashed dog.
